Flip's Story

Rub my belly
Flip wanting his belly rubbed.

Flip came to the shelter on August 17, 2000.  He was saved from a local freeway by an island resident who saw him "flipped" out of a moving car's window.  He was five weeks old and had suffered a severe break in his front leg, had a skinned forehead, and had a black eye.

He was a loving, trusting little boy, so we decided to try to repair his leg. A pin was put into his leg at the Gibraltar Vet Clinic by Dr. Duncan.  He was in a cast for months and stayed in Lora's office.  He "flipped" when he tried to walk, but he still greeted anyone that came in.

In the spring of 2001 he officially became the shelter mascot.  He now "flips" to have his belly rubbed when anyone comes to visit.  He loves kittens and is also known as Uncle Flip (the babysitter), bathing and playing with them when the mother gets tired.

He likes to visit the schools for career day and any other special events the Animal Control Officer attends.

The Happy Ending

As Flip grew older, he became less happy with the many cats that come and go from the shelter.  He would always make a friend, but always had certain cats that he would just not accept.

After many months of considering giving him a real home, a young girl came into the shelter and "flipped" for him.  It was easy to see that this was his chance at living in a real house, with a real family.

So, with assuredness that it was the right decision, but with sadness her heart, Lora let him go.  She didn't tell anyone, because she was afraid our selfishness to keep him would change her decision.

Flip now lives in a loving home in Brownstown, MI.  He has three kids to call his own, and yes ... a girlfriend.
